About Us

Lynwood Youth For Radical Change seeks to build a community movement that will work to combat the struggles against the inequities and powerlessness that affect all Lynwood residents. It is our commitment to engage with the community’s youth through an anti-capitalist framework and provide a safe space for radical learning and organizing. As such, the success of our movement will pay homage to the intellectual and physical labor established by BIPOC trailblazers. The collective was founded by local Youth residents of Lynwood , California after the BLM uprising across the nation that have inspired the People to demand change.-

We wanted to see change, So we became the change.

We are currently drafting up a list that encompasses all the things we are advocating or choose to target for our city and dismantle the current system as a whole.

Send an email to Lynwood City Council demanding accessibility to meetings

Email:

Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’d like to make a public comment regarding access to these council meetings. Our city prides itself in working to create and maintain a well-informed and responsive community, so we urge the council to fulfill this goal by live streaming these meetings using a video conference platform just like neighboring cities have done, and/or hold in-person city council meetings with strict social distancing rules and masks requirements so residents, who lack internet access, can still participate. This will be able to create a small yet impactful step towards community involvement. We’d like to see these changes implemented for the next meeting.

Send an email to Lynwood City Council demanding the divestment of sheriff funds to the community

Email:

Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’d like to make a public comment regarding agenda item #17. We agree that public safety is a priority of the city to improve the quality of life for residents. However, the upwards spending of contracts for Law Enforcement services is counterproductive. The city spent 9 million dollars of its General Funding on LA County Sheriff contracts back in 2016 and intends to spend 12 million dollars in 2021. We demand the city to reduce Law Enforcement budgets over the long term and work to eliminate policing practices that ultimately make residents feel afraid and unsafe. Let's divert that spending towards more housing, better mental and physical health care services, educational opportunities for all residents, employment and income support -- the things that allow for residents to feel safe and sustained in this pandemic. I urge you to understand that more often than not, people commit crimes because of poverty, deprivation, unemployment, and an unfair judicial system. People are trying to survive under a system that is constantly working against them. When we build up life-sustaining systems for our communities, we are actually reducing and better addressing harm. It is disappointing to see our city over-invest in a system that has a long and gruesome history in perpetuating violence against Black and brown people. Please consider the defunding of law enforcement services and repurpose those funds to meet the needs of our community.
